Pieces created to produce a feeling - calmness, peace, excitement, wonder. The thing I love about abstract art is that the piece does not tell you what to think...it guides you to feel.
I'm a southern girl through and through. I was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and I have spent the remainder of my life living in the beautiful state of Tennessee. I grew up and went to college in Nashville, obtained my law degree in Knoxville, and have lived in Memphis for more than a decade. I guess it is only fair that I have a soft spot for big showy summer florals, rows of cotton, sweet tea, and southern hospitality. Why...I declare, these paintings are a sight for sore eyes, if I do say so myself. ;)
A playful, modern, and often surprising spin on our beloved flowers and botanics. I use thick texture, fine inks, and metallic leaf to create rich compositions, full of depth.
One of my favorite aspects of painting is creating art that commemorates a special occasion or meaningful moment. I paint on commission and would love to talk with you about creating a custom piece as a gift or for your home or office! To commission your own piece, click here.
Though I am not a native Memphian, this wonderfully benevolent and warm city has been our home for over a decade. As an artist, it is impossible to capture the rich culture and history of the Bluff City, but here some pieces that I created to honor it.
When I first started painting people, I had a slight obsession with ballerinas. Perhaps it was due to the rigorous training, the costumes, or the intense focus on the "line," but I was hooked. Over time, I have expanded my work, and now I enjoy painting lots of people in different settings.
Abstracted structures communicate strength, dignity and solidarity. I love to contrast hard lines with soft colors.
Just like people, animals have such unique personalities. Here are a few samples of my work portraying these beloved creatures.
To me, watercolor is such a freeing medium. I am a self-taught water color artist, and I experience such joy and peace when I am creating with watercolors. In each piece, I consider the composition, the colors and tone, and the subject matter. I particularly enjoy depicting architecture with watercolors due to the contrast between the hard lines and the fluid paint.
